Hypnotising landscapes, the ascetic core of folk music, the spirit and the subconscious – these are the building blocks of Tõnu Kõrvits’ poetic and charming music. The author, who celebrates his 50th birthday this year, has written a pensive variation on English Renaissance composer John Dowland’s exquisite musical motives. The programme also includes Pēteris Vasks’ dedication to the high power of love in his work Vox amoris, one of composer’s most beautiful works, bursting of longing, with solo by Triin Ruubel, the new first violin of Estonian National SO. After the intermission, we will hear Symphony no. 3 by Felix Mendelssohn, who allegedly first conceived the work in the ruins of a Scottish castle chapel that was safekeeping memories of Mary Stuart’s wedding under the ivy and grass.
